Umbrella Insurance

Umbrella Insurance is a personal liability insurance protection that becomes valuable when you find yourself liable for a claim larger than your policies will cover.  Consider it an additional layer of liability coverage that protects you in the case of accidents or mishaps.  Umbrella insurance will also cover specific claims those policies may not, such as false imprisonment, slander, and libel.

If you are unsure how an Umbrella Policy could benefit you, please review the following examples of its value to you as a policyholder:

• You are the cause of a ten-car accident.  Your auto insurance property damage coverage will not be enough to replace all ten accident victims’ vehicles.  Also, your personal liability coverage is not enough to pay their medical bills.
• Your dog attacks a neighbor who was going for a walk.  The neighbor sues you to cover medical bills, lost wages, pain, and suffering.
• You send food to your child’s school for a class function.  Some students become ill with food poisoning and decide to sue.
• Your teenage son or daughter has a party while you are out of town.  A guest brings alcohol to the party.  One of the guests is arrested for driving under the influence on his way home.  You are then sued as a result.
• One of your children gets into a fight at school and punches another student, breaking their nose.  The parents of that student sue you.
